Know Your Lotion
It is best to apply an accelerator while at the salon instead of at home before you come, it starts losing it's full effectiveness after 5 minutes on your body
- Accelerator: An accelerator is a lotion, which moisturizes and stimulates the production of melanin. They are rich in vitamins and nutrients, which are vital for healthy skin.
- Bronzer: Bronzers are lotions, which give the tanner immediate color gratification. Some bronzers have DHA and some have cosmetic bronzers.
- Tingle or Hot Action: These products stimulate the surface of the skin. This causes blood to rush to the surface and in doing so pushes the melanocytes deep in the skin to the surface exposing more of them to UV light. To test a tingle for intensity the best place is on the inner part of the elbow or during a tanning session on the legs only.
- Coolant: These are lotions, which contain ingredients to cool the skin resulting in a more comfortable tanning session for the tanner. The fragrances also have a relaxing effect on the tanner. These contain menthol, spearmint, eucalyptus and other such ingredients.
- Facial Products:Always use a facial products. There are many hypoallergenic and unscented facial tanning products available.
WHY NOT TO TAN DRY...
- When you tan without lotion, moisturizer or accelerator, your skin dehydrates, starts to look older, wrinkled, and damaged. You may not see the results right away, but aging and damaged skin is NOT the result you want out of your tan! Why chance it!
- Throughout the tanning process, it is very important to replenish the skin with moisture and nutrients. Tanners should diligently apply a moisturizer lotion at least twice daily to help your skin stay hydrated. It is best to apply it after you shower or bathe. Moist skin accepts the UV-tanning rays, while dry skin reflects them.
